A calico soup kinda day!

Today is one of those cold early spring days so I am making a hearty warm soup served with cornbread. I went to my local meat market last week and saw a bag of mixed beans. Lentils and pearled barley. It said calico bean soup mix..I just love any kind of bean soup! I cooked this in my trusty crock pot all day and it was very delicious! One nice thing about making any kind of soup is you can always freeze the left overs and use it again.

If you can't find a bag of the califo soup mix I would use:
black ,red ,and white beans some lenils and barley.
2 ham hocks
2 bay leaves
1 TB parsley
1 tsp basil
1Tsp garlic
1onion chopped
1/2 tsp pepper
3 cups of chicken broth
1 cup water
1cup chopped carrots
1 cup chopped celery
Let all ingredients cook in crock pot at least 6 to 8 hours
